Refugee Communities History Project
Overview: We interviewed 177 people from 15 refugee communities throughout London about the reasons for leaving their homelands and the contributions they’d made to the city since arrival. The interviews are archived at the Museum of London, which also hosted Belonging: Voices of London’s Refugees, a major audio visual exhibition based on project findings
My role: I oversaw the running of the project including the management of 15 project fieldworkers and the £750,000 budget. In addition I was responsible for ensuring smooth communications between the 18 partner organisations and helped to archive the interviews and curate the exhibition.
Foundling Voices
Overview: We conducted life story interviews with 74 people who grew up in the Foundling Hospital Schools in the first half of the 20th century. The Foundling Hospital, established in 1739, was the first institution in the UK to look after children whose parents were unable to care for them themselves. London Metropolitan Archives hold the interview collection, and we created a six month exhibition, a website and a play based on project research.
My role: Again, I managed the project through all stages, oversaw the collection interviews, the creation of the website and play and co-curated the exhibition.
Mill Memories, recollections of Ashby’s Mill, Brixton
